Prestwick Area Guide

Prestwick lies 30 miles south of Glasgow in Ayrshire and was founded way back in the 10th century. For many years this area has been a popular holiday destination due to its stunning countryside and beautiful coastline. Visitors to Ayreshire can enjoy hillwalking, cycling, days on the beach and of course, Golf. Open golf was first played here with courses in Troon and Turnberry and the very first British Open was held in Prestwick.

The restored cottage where Burns was born and Burns House Museum where he later lived are amongst the many historical attractions in the area and the "Burns an' a' that" festival celebrating Scottish life and culture includes music, poetry and entertainment and is a popular event.

Prestwick airport connects the airport with various destinations in the UK and Europe and handles over 1.9 million passengers a year. There are also good rail and road links with Glasgow taking under an hour.
