The MetroCentre in Gateshead remains one of the largest shopping complexes in Europe, making it a perfect shopper's paradise whatever the weather. A growth in the city's theatre culture has taken place in recent years, focused around the impressive Theatre Royal on Grey Street. Other theatres in the city include the Tyne Opera House, the Newcastle Playhouse, and the Live Theatre.
