Edinburgh Area Guide

Scotland's capital city is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and an extremely popular destination due to its lively atmosphere and many attractions.

Its impressive castle is perhaps the cities major attraction. This dramatic 1200 year old building sits at the end of the Royal Mile which stretches down to the Palace of Holyrood House, the Queen's official residence in Scotland. The historical streets of Edinburgh are a delight to wander through and there are several impressive art galleries and museums.

Edinburgh's coast and countryside also draw people to the area offering an escape from the bustling city. There are some spectacular golf courses, countryside and hilltop walking trails and beautiful stretches of golden beaches.

The highlight of Edinburgh's calendar must be the festival held in August, a huge event with theatre, music, dance and comedy but Hogmany (New Year's Eve) is also a great time for celebrations and a chance to experience the vibrant atmosphere throughout the city.

Nightlife is thriving throughout the year with many bars, restaurants, nightclubs, cinemas, theatre and music venues. Some of the main venues for drama performances include the Festival Theatre, Playhouse, Assembly Rooms, and Queen's Hall in Edinburgh.
