Coventry Area Guide

Years ago, Coventry was amongst England's largest cities, both in size and importance. Located in the Midlands, it was a city rich with medieval buildings, timber framed shops and pubs, impressive churches and Cathedrals. Much of the city was destroyed during the war and the famous ruins of St Micheal's cathedral stand as a reminder - the only English cathedral to be destroyed during the second world war.

The city that has been rebuilt is one of modern precincts and contemporary cityscapes amongst the historical remains. It is ever growing with new bars and restaurants opening in the historical quarter and entertainment and leisure complexes where factories used to stand.

Coventry boasts several museums and galleries including the world-class Motor museum, the Toy museum, Herbert Art gallery and museum and the Lunt Roman Fort at Baginton.

There are several annual festivals such as the internationally acclaimed Jazz and Church Music Festival and at any other time of year there is lively nightlife, theatres, cinemas and sporting events to keep visitors entertained.
